The handrail light of the "OHR1 N24 LS" series impresses with its innovative mounting design, which was specially developed for the Bunkergarten project in Hamburg. What is special about this solution is that the light can be integrated directly into an open round tube without the otherwise usual groove in the handrail profile. This also opens up completely new possibilities for the subsequent installation of handrail lights in existing round tube systems without compromising the clear line of the handrail.
Despite the special installation situation, no compromises had to be made with the lighting technology. Depending on the requirements, the luminaire can be designed with either symmetrical or asymmetrical light distribution, offering maximum flexibility for a wide range of lighting tasks.

The challenge with this project was integrating continuous handrail lighting into already installed round tube handrails. Since the handrails weren't originally designed for lighting, custom cutouts had to be made afterward. On top of that, special lengths were needed to fit the lights perfectly to the local conditions.
This made it possible to integrate the lighting harmoniously into the existing structure afterward, without affecting the clean lines of the handrail.
The selected light color is 3000 Kelvin; the luminaires are dimmable via DALI to adjust the brightness to nighttime conditions and Dark Sky standards. Because the luminaires are installed within a handrail, they are shielded and emit light exclusively toward the ground—no direct light is directed toward the sky. Additional lighting scenes are planned, and emergency lighting is also provided via the handrail luminaires. About two-thirds of the more than 300 luminaires use asymmetric light distribution, while the rest use symmetric light distribution.
The result is a high-quality and sturdy lighting solution that combines functionality, durability, and a subtle appearance, fitting seamlessly into the existing architecture.
