Beneath the western platform area of Amsterdam Centraal, a passageway unfolds that seamlessly blends historical architecture with contemporary technology. The riveted steel beams remain exposed, providing the framework for a lighting solution that organizes the space without overwhelming it.
Approximately 1.2 kilometers of LEDLUX LH3, housed within the LEDLUX AL profile, were installed as a custom solution in three-meter segments; mounting plates pre-assembled on the rear side enabled their precise integration into the Integra ceiling system, thereby establishing the foundation for simple, tool-free maintenance of the 230V luminaires.
The parallel LED lines follow the rhythm of the ceiling panels, providing clear, unobtrusive wayfinding in an area that handles a large flow of travelers every day. The lighting design by Rob Trieling (LICHTidee) and the on-site implementation by Licht NL ensured that the technical integration harmonizes with the existing steel structure. As a result, the western Reiziger Tunnel has been transformed from a functional passageway into a clearly laid-out, pleasantly contained connecting space that accommodates the city’s movements while simultaneously creating a sense of calm.
