The Marina Bay Waterfront Promenade was opened by the Prime Minister of Singapore in July 2010 and is now a popular leisure destination for tourists and the residents of the city of millions. The 3.5-kilometre-long promenade is an important urban link connecting the various attractions around Marina Bay. The project includes a promenade on two levels as well as a visitor centre and an observation deck designed for major events in the city.
The location and design of important junctions and interfaces within the promenade deliberately relate to the urban environment and the entire pedestrian network with a multitude of bus stops and pedestrian crossings.
To underscore the impressive length of the promenade, the pier is bordered by a 550-meter-long line of light featuring LEDLUX linear LH luminaires from InstaLighting. This line of light extends along the shoreline, marking the transition between land and water. In a complementary design move, the granite benches—which invite visitors to linger on the promenade—are transformed into illuminated objects that visually harmonize with the contours of the shoreline. To achieve this, 450 meters of fassade lines OLL1 4010 in warm white are utilized, seamlessly integrated into the benches.
