The northern extension of line 14 of the Paris Metro is primarily intended to relieve line 13 and includes the construction of four new stations over a distance of 5.8 km: Pont Cardinet, Porte de Clichy, Saint-Ouen, Mairie de Saint-Ouen . The more than 96,000 residents of Clichy-Batignolles, Clichy and Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine are now closely connected to Paris' public transport network. More than 600,000 people use the route every day. The project is part of the city of Paris' plans to drastically reduce car traffic in the metropolis and to implement a future-oriented, sustainable traffic concept. The iconic Porte de Clichy station is the central hub and connection to line 13 and the RER C commuter line station.
The particular challenge during construction lay in the depth of the station and the enormous dimensions of the large hall, which is 30 metres high, 22 metres wide and 130 metres long. Consequently, staircases and their lighting play a key role in the station’s design. 1700 OHR3 handrail lights from InstaLighting in four different lengths not only enhance safety and wayfinding, but also showcase the impressive architecture. In particular, the continuous, uninterrupted lighting surface supports the visual structuring of the space. The product was specially developed to meet the lighting requirements and specifications of the lighting designers at 8-18.
