The refurbishment of the light ceiling at the RheinCenter Cologne was intended to reduce energy and maintenance costs by 90 percent. In addition, the existing glass and metal were to be reused in accordance with the cradle-to-cradle principle.
To convert the ceiling lighting to LED, a combination of bespoke solutions and elements from the NoLimits modular lighting system was used. The illuminated ceiling consists of six wide LED light strips in RGB and Tunable White. In combination with a holistic control concept, this has resulted in a striking lighting solution that imbues the space with an emotional atmosphere whilst simultaneously meeting all functional requirements for product presentation, safety and customer guidance.
The light ceiling at the RheinCenter Cologne was specifically developed as a key design and functional element to enhance the architectural impact of the space. By dynamically controlling the light colours and intensities, it is possible to create different atmospheres for various times of day and usage scenarios.
