World-class architecture meets literary history

For David Chipperfield, the architect of the Modern Literature Museum in Marbach, "a literature museum is something that almost doesn't exist". Because you can't show literature – you have to read it. In Marbach, the history and the process of creating literature can still be experienced. The exhibition not only shows original literary-historical documents, but also conveys the fascination for language and stories through digital forms of presentation for children and adults.

The museum is a real challenge for lighting design. Because the original manuscripts and objects are extremely sensitive to light and have particularly high conservation requirements. At the same time, colors and materials should be shown to their best advantage even in low light intensity.

In this environment, 260 Stratas spotlights from InstaLighting make full use of their unique strength in terms of colour rendering index. With a constant Colour Rendering Index (CRI) of 98, the Stratas light comes extremely close to the effect of daylight. With a variety of interchangeable reflectors, sculpture lenses and 8-fold barndoors, Stratas puts the permanent exhibition in the best light and adapts effortlessly to different temporary exhibitions.

Last but not least, Marbach is also about the visibility of outstanding architecture. The building by David Chipperfield relies on openness and contrasts of brightness, darkness, daylight and artificial light as well as natural materials such as wood, shell stone and light-colored concrete. In order to work out these qualities, a particularly sensitive handling of light is necessary - which the lighting planners from Lunalicht Lichtarchitektur have implemented in a masterly way.
