The "Green Center" of Düren

The redesign of Theodor-Heuss-Platz is one of the most important urban development projects in Düren in recent years. Today's Theodor-Heuss-Park was created in the 1950s as an important part of the city's "green center". When a new residential quarter (Bismark quarter) was planned on the site of the former town hall, the adjacent square was to be included in the design in order to form a unit with the new building complex.

The two core elements of the place - the landscape and the city - were combined into an urban clearing. The central, architectural element of the landscape is a green lawn with mature trees that have been integrated into the redesign. Under the rows of trees there are promenades in the north and south, which structure the square and allow access from different sides.

In order to emphasize these axes, the clearing was raised and transformed into a city garden with adjacent raised beds.

In the evening, LED lines along the edge of the clearing emphasise the spatial concept. The illumination of the trees reinterprets the idea of the clearing in the dark and emphasises the natural character of the square. This concept was realised with OHR1 LED-lines from InstaLighting. Robust materials and LED modules sealed with encapsulation technology guarantee not only the highest quality of light, but also a long service life and weather resistance.
